Both ASTM A36 carbon steel and ASTM A572 grade 50 are iron alloys. Both are furnished in the as fabricated (no temper or treatment) condition. They have a very high 99% of their average alloy composition in common. For each property being compared, the top bar is ASTM A36 carbon steel and the bottom bar is ASTM A572 grade 50.
May 27, 2009 · When it comes to replacing A572 50 instead of A36, I have never had a problem or any one question me becuase the A572 always meets, and exceeds the requirement of A36. It's a higher grade of material, so no one ever complains because they asked for a Ford but they get Mercedes. Chris
I selected ASTM A572 Grade 50 rods because of the tensile strength of 65 ksi, which meets my shear resistance requirements. The project is Design Build, and the contractor is requesting the use of ASTM A36, Grade 50 rods, which I'm assuming are more readily available (thus cheaper).
ASTM A572 Gr 50 steel plate is used in a variety of structural applications including bridges, buildings, construction equipment, freight cars, machinery, truck parts and transmission towers. ASTM A36 steel is used in bolted, riveted and welded processes. Depending on your applications, different steel grades of the two may be used.

A572 42 A572 50A572 grade 50 steel plate is a high strength, low alloy plate, specified for bridges, higher strength structural duties, and light pressure vessel requirements. Recommended for riveted, bolted, or welded structures, such as Gussets and Bridge Plates, when intended for construction of bridges. At 50ksi, a higher strength steel
High strength low alloy structural steel plate, thick 8~300mm A572Gr50 high strength low alloy structural steel is widely used in engineering structures, such as the construction of steel structures, construction machinery, mining machinery, heavy duty trucks, bridges, pressure vessels, especially for good weldability and toughness of the architectural and engineering mechanical components.
Comparing Steel Plate Grades. A36This steel is produced using a minimum yield of 36,000 psi. It has all the qualities used in structural projects requiring A572 GR 50This steel has a 50,000 psi minimum strength level offering a combination of high strength along with
A36 = The most common used hot rolled carbon constructional steel is A36. It is easy to weld and has a minimum yield strength of 36k psi. Used in multiple applications like bridges, buildings, marine applications, and other structures where welding is used. A572 Grade 50 = The most economical of the high strength low alloy (HSLA) group.
A36 Grade Steel is a Structural Quality Steel, frequently employed for use in general construction. A572 50 which is a High Strength Low Alloy Steel that is most commonly used when higher strength is required, such as in heavy construction.

ASTM A572 High Strength Steel Channel Section. ASTM A572 is a high strength low alloy (HSLA) steel with alloy content of columbium and vanadium, which strengthens the steel and provides higher yield point strength than ASTM A36. A572 HSLA steel channel is ideal for the applications where needs higher strength for it reduces the thickness and
The American Society for Testing and Materials standardizes, among other things, the composition and mechanical properties of steel. While many forms of steel possess similar compositions, such as A529 and A572, relatively small differences in the quantities of particular elements are enough to make the steels have different mechanical properties, and therefore, different applications.
Q345 Structural Steel Equivalent ASTM A572 Grade 50 Posted:2015 11 30 03:16:23 Q345 structural steel has good mechanical properties, low temperature performance, plasticity and good weld ability, Q345 steel is mostly used in low pressure vessel, oil tank, vehicles, cranes, mining machinery, power stations, mechanical parts, building structure
Jan 31, 2005 · We typically use A572 grade 50 and sometimes use "A36 modified" or A36 material that has a 50 KSI min yield or greater. One of my steel vendors has offered some Cold Rolled 1018 in 1/4" and 3/16" thickness (min yield of 56 KSI) to use for the web plates on these beams.

Mar 09, 2019 · (And I am not talking about hard spots in particular pieces of steel bar.) However, the A36 does not guarantee the greater strength. A572 Grade 50 (and now A992) are very popular specifications for somewhat stronger material (minimum 50KSI yield strength instead of 36KSI). Many mills can dual certify their product for both A36 and A572 Grade 50.
